The tip for today is related to Google’s search engine, which to say the least can be extremely confusing. Today I will let you in on the secret to creating a page structure that will get you to number 1 for your preferred suburbs in less than a year.

How and Why to Rank for a Keyword

Firstly, though, how and why would you want to rank for a keyword? Well if you know which keywords people search for and how many of them search for them, you will know which keywords are ranking and for what.

Example Using ShoreAgents Global Realty

I’ll show you a scenario using ShoreAgents Global Realty. Let’s say our office is located in Coorparoo, QLD and we want to be found in that area. So how would people find us? I’ve used a keyword tool to see how many people are searching for real estate Coorparoo, and you can see the results below.

  • CPC: $1.58
  • Competition: 0.35

  • CPC: $11.58
  • Competition: 0.79

Understanding the Numbers

The volume is the number of people who searched for the keyword. So around 390 people typed the words ”real estate Coorparoo” into Google on a monthly basis. The CPC is the cost per click. Basically, if we placed an ad with those keywords, it would cost us $1.58 per click. The competition number is a little trickier. A competition rating of.35 means that this keyword does not have a lot of people targeting it.

Strategy for Using Keywords

So how do you make these numbers work magic for your business? I’ll explain one of my strategies now. It’s just a suggestion, and, like anything that will bring in dollars, it isn’t easy. This will take time and energy. But SEO is what we call a long game. Firstly, you need to write 1600-1800 words of unique content on the suburb that you are going after. So, if we were trying to rank in Coorparoo that’s what we would do. The main heading should be the main keyword and the second point can be the sub keyword. If you have any other points, you can add them in as headings. But the main goal should be the main keyword – in this case, real estate Coorparoo.

I have given you the basic ingredients in this article, but I haven’t given you the whole recipe! The slug must be your keyword.

What’s a slug? It’s the part of your URL that comes after the main part.
