Slack is a cloud-based team collaboration platform that was launched in 2013. It was founded by Stewart Butterfield, Eric Costello, Cal Henderson, and Serguei Mourachov, who had previously created Flickr, a popular photo-sharing platform.
Slack was originally developed as an internal communication tool for Butterfield's company, Tiny Speck, which was working on a massively multiplayer online game called Glitch. The team found that the internal communication tool they had been using wasn't sufficient, so they decided to build their own. After Glitch was shut down, Butterfield and his team realized that the communication tool they had built had the potential to be a standalone product, and so Slack was born.
The name "Slack" is actually an acronym for "Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge," which reflects the platform's focus on creating a searchable archive of team communication.
Slack quickly gained popularity, and by 2014, the platform had more than 16,000 daily active users. Today, Slack is used by millions of people around the world, including teams at companies such as Airbnb, IBM, and NASA. In 2019, Slack went public, with its shares debuting on the New York Stock Exchange.

I started working with Slack in 2017, at that time we internally experimented with various software to improve the efficiency of the processes of the agency where I worked. A few months later, a new client came in, a large scientific institution with 1,600 researchers, and Slack became the best internal communication manager, it still continues, and it is unbeatable in its specific role.

I love how easy it is to use. I love using Slack for communication way more than Emails and I enjoy the different connection comes with slack. I like that I can setup Notion with it, email alerts, google calendar alerts and I LOVE the Slack huddle feature.

I love how everything gets so organized in there. The search bar is the best because you can query by channel and author, making it much easier to find stuff you can't recall but know where you saw. The new design of the sidebar is perfect. I loved that I could hide all my channels and configure them so only those with unread messages or mentions are displayed outside the group; it made my work environment much cleaner and neat. Also, I LOVE that you can schedule messages!! It's helpful when you have an announcement for your team and want it to be made at some specific date and time. And the "remind me about this later" feature is the best way never to forget a task again.

Being a part of a fast-paced working team, it becomes essential to be updated frequently on the tasks that everyone is up to. Slack makes communication easier and more noticeable for everyone. It's much better than waiting for emails to be responded to. Also, it's pretty easy to search the conversation, no matter how old it is, with the help of the thread option.
